Storybots

Storybots is a new project from JibJab, the studio best known for their annual “Year in review” animated and puppet videos (see previous post). JibJab founders Evan and Gregg Spiridellis’ latest venture is called StoryBots, a series of personalized ebooks, videos and more that are  built around tiny, brightly-colored, perpetually positive little creatures who live beneath our screens.

The Storybots characters are realized using a variety of animation techniques as well as, yes you guessed it, good old fashioned puppetry:

The puppets in the segment above were performed by Sean and Patrick Johnson of Swazzle, who have collaborated with JibJab before. The Storybots puppets were built in-house at JibJab by Mike Chiechi under the art direction of Romney Caswell. You can discover more about the Storybots at www.storybots.com and get a glimpse behind-the-scenes with the Storybots’ Behind The Scenes Tumblr.
