Tears of Steel is the fourth open source film created by the Blender Institute, designed to showcase the capabilities of the totally free, open source Blender 3D animation software. Written and Directed by Ian Hubert, the film tells the story of a group of scientists and warriors who gather in Amsterdam to re-stage a historical event and save the world from killer robots.
Tears of Steel is the first Blender Open Movie Project to focus on live action visual effects and was created with the specific goal of creating a complete open source pipeline for producing a high quality visual effect films with Blender. As is always the case with Blender Foundation movies, the film, it’s source footage and all of the materials used to make it, have been released under a Creative Commons Attribution license and are free to distribute and incorporate in to your own projects.
