Bullwinkle design breakdown
John K. provides an insightful breakdown of Rocky and Bullwinkle in a recent entry on his blog, All Kinds of Stuff.

John K. – a previous source of inspiration here on PuppetVision – has been discussing Rocky and Bullwinkle on his fabulous drawing and animation blog, All Kinds of Stuff. Specifically, he explains why he likes the original Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon designs so much and how they utilize important design concepts like construction, proportion, line of action, etc. It’s a great read if you have an interest in design or animation and full of useful tips that can be applied to designing, building and even performing puppets.

Whether you’re a longtime Rocky and Bullwinkle fan or just want to learn more about them, a very good book to check out is The Moose That Roared: The Story of Jay Ward, Bill Scott, a Flying Squirrel, and a Talking Moose by Keith Scott. Not only does it provide a fascinating history of of the two characters, it also does a nice job of documenting their creator Jay Ward’s career-long interest in puppetry and his many efforts (mostly unsuccessful) to get various puppet-related TV projects off the ground.
