The big puppet news today is that The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta and The Jim Henson Foundation has announced that the Center is going to build a new wing to house the official collection of Jim Henson, including a number of retired Muppet puppets. In total, up to 700 items from the Henson archives will be placed on display once a new building is constructed to house the collection in 2012. Jane and Cheryl Henson were present in Atlanta yesterday to make the official announcement and unveiled a historic Kermit the Frog puppet in the Center’s atrium.
A video of the announcement at The Center For Puppetry Arts is available online. You can also learn more from The New York Times and MSNBC.
27/07/07 Update: Of course it was Cheryl Henson, not her sister Lisa, who was at the announcement at the Center yesterday so I’ve updated this post to correct my mistake. Sorry for the mix up!
