Zaza and Hector are two of the stars of the 1960s children’s series Hector’s House.
I only recently discovered the charming children’s series Hector’s House, but I absolutely love it! Originally a French show called La Maison de Toutou that began airing on the BBC in the late 1960s. The show stars Hector, a somewhat henpecked hound dog with a stuffy British accent who lives with a female cat and her fussy frog friend who seem to spend their entire day sitting around in the garden and nagging poor Hector incessantly.
The show is very simple, but features some nice glove puppetry work. I haven’t been able to discover the names of the French puppeteers who worked on the series, the voice of Kiki the Frog in the English version of the show was performed by Denise Bryer, who is probably best known as the voice of Noddy and also voiced the Junk Lady in Labyrinth. You can watch an episode of Hector’s House on YouTube. The show is also available on DVD.
Special thanks to Nikole for originally turning me on to this!
