Roll Play is an innovative new Canadian series that uses puppetry to help kids get active.
Roll Play is a new series of interstials on Canadian TV that combine puppetry, music and simple stories to help children be more active. The show uses a split-screen format; puppets are performed in black light on one half of the screen while children re-enact the puppets’ movements on the other half of the screen just like you see above.
The show’s pedigree is especially impressive. Most of the scripts were written by authors like Stephanie McLellan and Carole Tremblay, the music is by great Canadian acts like Great Big Sea, Kardinal and Broken Social Scene and the puppetry is provided by Famous PEOPLE Players.
Personally, I’m always a little leery of T.V. aimed at fighting inactivity (I think that the best way to keep kids active is to turn the TV off) but this show has a really innovative approach that I like a lot and I think kids will love it. A trailer for Roll Play is available online and the series airs in Canada on Treehouse TV (check their schedule for times) as well as Radio Canada.
