Tyger: A must-see puppet film
Posted on 14 May 2006

A giant cat roams the wild streets of São Paul in Guilherme Marcondes’ Tyger.

Last week I wrote about revolutionary puppetry. Well, if you ever wanted to see an example of that, look no further than Tyger, an incredible new short from Brazilian director Guilherme Marcondes that combines Bunraku-style puppetry, still photography, and animation to tell the story of a jungle cat set loose on the streets of São Paul. More stylized and more entertaining than Peter Jackson’s King Kong, and undoubtly made for a tiny fraction of the money.

I can’t wait for the “making-of” feature that’s promised soon.

Thanks to Mike M. for the link!

16/05/06 Update: Check out the web site of João Grembecki, the talented Brazilian puppeteer who built the film’s tiger puppet.
