Dinosaurs on DVD today!

Disney is releasing Dinosaurs: The Complete First and Second Seasons as a DVD box set today. Although I found much of the show’s satire a little too on the nose for my taste, it was still one of my favourites in the `90s and has to be hands-down the most creative and insanely ambitious sitcom ever produced. Supposedly, each episode cost Disney and Henson twice what ABC actually paid to air the series because of all the complex animatronics used on the show and the large crew needed to maintain and operate them.
Extra features on the DVD include making-of documentaries about how Kirk Thatcher designed the show’s dinosaur characters and how Jim Henson’s Creature Shop brought them to life. There are also “dinosaur eggs” – hidden links to special clips from the series.
To help promote the release, UGO has an interview with Brian Henson (a producer and frequent puppeteer on Dinosaurs) about the show along with a nice gallery of pictures available here.
The DVD set is available on DVD from amazon.com and elsewhere for about $40 US.
09/05/06 Update: MuppetCentral has posted a review of the DVDs that includes a guide to all the hidden “Dino-Eggs” on each disc.
