Carroll Spinney gives a three hour interview about his life and career in his Connecticut home.
Google Video has a fantastic, nearly three hour long interview with Carroll Spinney from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. Taped in 2001, in it Carroll takes you through his entire life, from the origin of his name to his decades-long career on Sesame Street. The best thing about the interview is that it appears to be complete and uncut. You can even hear gaffes and people crashing around making noise in the background.
The interview is from the Academy’s collection of interviews with notable figures in television history. Also included in collection is another fantastic, multi-part interview with Sesame Street creator Joan Ganz Cooney (parts four and five focus mostly on her work with Jim Henson and the Muppets).
The Academy also has interviews with several other notable Sesame Street figures including Muppet builder Ed Christie and puppeteer Kevin Clash in its archives. Hopefully they’ll be making those interviews available as well very, very soon.
