Well first it was Janet’s nipple and now it’s this. And this, this and this. People, get a grip! I mean I don’t expect much journalistic integrity from the Toronto Sun, but should this really be their cover story two days running? How can the country that produced Jim Carrey, Mike Myers and SCTV possibly have no sense of humour?

I caught most of the offending segment on Thursday night and didn’t think it was a big deal. I’m not necessarily endorsing what Robert Smigel (Triumph’s puppeteer) said, but I think a serious reality check is needed here. It’s satire folks. It’s supposed to be provocative! And the dog’s a freakin’ puppet!

There’s a pretty lively debate about this going on in the Triumph Community. Love him or hate him, Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is just one example of the more perverse side of puppetry.

Personally, I think that all this fuss smacks of a little elitist Anti-Americanism if you ask me. No one gets their nose out of joint when Ed The Sock or the Air Farce make similar jokes – and Don, Luba, Roger and Jessica Holmes are all on a government agency’s payroll for crying out loud!

On last night’s final, less controversial Toronto episode of Late Night Canada’s favorite homegrown band Barenaked Ladies were the closing act. This morning while checking Google for something completely unrelated I came across the BNL Blog which was neat to see. I live in Toronto’s supposedly fashionable west end and one of the neighborhood’s more famous inhabitants is Tyler Stewart, BNL’s drummer. Of course he doesn’t know me from a hole in the head, but it’s still very cool to see Tyler and his family around the neighborghood doing the stuff normal Canadians do.
